Ayurveda

Ayurveda literally means “the knowledge of life” in Sanskrit.

Ayurveda is a healing method that is thousands of years old and is scientifically taught and accepted by the population in India and Sri Lanka.

It is not an individual therapeutic measure, but a holistic system and belongs to the field of traditional alternative medicine.
Ayurveda includes:

  • massages
  • different cleaning techniques
  • nutritional and lifestyle recommendations
  • herbal medicine
  • yoga, breathing and meditation techniques

We use medicine from well-known manufacturers such as Link, Himalaya, Siddhalepa etc.

We respect the personal responsibility of our guests.

In our opinion, every day spent approaching and using Ayurveda is beneficial for body, mind and soul and it is up to our guests to take as much as they like.

spa opening ceremony

For all cures lasting 10 days or more, the cure begins with a joint ceremony in which all supporters (doctors, therapists, cooks, cleaning staff, etc.) wish the cure participants much success for the cure and good health.

doctor's consultation

Our doctors Dr. Ashoka and Dr. Nilanthi are both qualified doctors registered with the Sri Lankan Ayurvedic Medical Council.

Both have decades of experience both in Ayurvedic Government Hospitals and in dealing with foreigners who come to Sri Lanka for treatment.

During the initial examination, the current condition of the guest is determined and then the treatments, medication and oils used are individually planned and coordinated directly with the therapists.

Depending on the length of the treatment, a consultation takes place approximately once a week. In the meantime, any questions/issues that arise are clarified by telephone almost daily.

The final consultation then gives the guest recommendations (medicine, behavior, lifestyle, nutrition) to take home.

Silke and Lucky will be happy to accompany you in your daily spa routine with all topics and consultations and will help you translate language and culture.

treatments

Our therapists are also very well trained and some have decades of professional experience.

It is important to us that guests feel comfortable, cared for and safe and experience the "loving kindness" with which they are treated.

The most common treatments are:

  • head massage
  • facial massage
  • foot massage
  • full body massage
  • oil, herbal or rice compresses
  • Shirodara/forehead cast
  • herbal stamp massage
  • powder massages
  • Marma massage
  • inhalations
  • herbal baths
  • and much more

Nutrition

We serve typical Sri Lankan food, usually vegetarian but also vegan upon request.

The menu is determined by the treatments and by our doctors.

We choose organic food wherever possible.

Our cooks Sriani, Neetha and Nana live in the house next door and are down-to-earth Sri Lankan housewives. They cook with gas and often on a wood fire (because it simply tastes better).

They are happy to explain how they prepare the delicious dishes and, upon request, you can visit them and experience their culinary skills.

keep busy...

We have a lot of things ready for you to keep busy in the villa:

  • Relax in the garden and watch birds and animals (wild parrots come to feed twice a day)
  • Write a spa diary (available upon arrival),
  • Read Ayurveda and spa information (available upon arrival),
  • painting stones etc.,
  • Play,
  • Reading (we have a growing number of novels and lots of Ayurveda books and magazines in German),
  • playing or cuddling with Jeanny (our very cuddly Labrador dog),
  • celebrating birthdays
  • participate in the Buddha Puja in the house
  • walk on the beach or
  • reflect on your wishes for the future (write on cloth, wrap it around a coin and bring it to the temple)....
  • or just do nothing.

From the second week onwards, people usually feel like going on an excursion. Our tuk-tuk drivers are extremely reliable and will take you wherever you want. Most guests like the mangrove boat trip, Kanda Vihara Temple, sea turtle farm or simply shopping in Beruwala or Alutgama.

Thanks to Katja for some of the pictures.

completion of the course

The treatment ends with the famous flower bath, in which everyone can feel like a king or queen.

Afterwards, everyone has a lot of fun putting on their sari/sarong (with the help of Sriani, Neetha and Nana in Lucky's parents' house next door) and getting ready for the photo shoot.
